Will Gao – Department of Computer Science

Advisor: Michael Maire

I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student advised by Michael Maire. Before coming to UChicago, I worked at Meta as a Machine Learning engineer. Before then, I received a B.A. in Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics, and an M.Eng in Computer Science, both from Cornell University. At Cornell, I studied theoretical machine learning with Prof. Karthik Sridharan, specifically regret bounds of online learning algorithms.

My research is in the fields of computer vision and computer graphics. I am interested in machine learning algorithms that enable human creativity in visual media. My previous papers primarily deal with generating and manipulating 3D objects, though I am actively interested in generative modeling for both 2D and 3D data.
